BenQ Mobile is the first manufacturer to present the comprehensive “Services over Air” (S.O.A.) service program at the CeBIT 2006. “Services over Air” permit convenient and fast diagnosis, configuration, modification and personalization of BenQ-Siemens mobile phones over the air. Using this solution, you can extend and update your mobile’s software on the move at any time. The complete service package comprises four categories:
(1) software updates (“S.O.A. Software Updates”)
(2) remote diagnostics (“S.O.A. Remote Diagnostics”)
(3) download of mobile content and
(4) updates for mobile settings (“S.O. A. Content Downloads”/ “S.O.A. Settings Updates”).
For this service, only regular operator fees are charged.
To access “S.O.A. Software Updates” the mobile user only has to activate the Software Download function in the phone’s menu. Then the data is transmitted directly onto the mobile via GPRS. The software update is automatically installed after the mobile is restarted.
With the novel “S.O.A. Remote Diagnostics” service, BenQ Mobile assists the mobile user with the settings and configuration of the mobile as well as with software-related problems. BenQ Mobile is currently the worldwide leader in remote diagnostics. An intelligent server application analyzes any errors that occur and supplies solutions. Thus the remote diagnostics service is a viable alternative to traditional customer hotlines.
Whether by Download Assistant, SMS Push or WAP download – the “S.O.A. Content Downloads” service offers various channels for downloading new content onto the mobile. Apart from restoring data which the user has unintentionally deleted, free service content is also offered via S.O.A., such as additional languages for the T9 intelligent typing function. Applications, games and ringtones that reflect the mobile’s lifestyle character are also available. In addition, BenQ-Mobile plans to interlink offers from operators’ portals into the S.O.A. service in the future.
Updating all telephone settings is equally fast and convenient via the “S.O.A. Settings Updates” service. The user requests the required settings via a configurator application on the Internet. Then the settings are delivered directly to the mobile. The settings of over 500 operators from more than 120 countries are available in the database.
